Every fall there always seems to be a handful of pieces that everybody gravitates towards. You stare at them online for hours and you wonder how you can easily incorporate these pieces into your existing wardrobe. I know that feeling and it honestly keeps me from buying items that I love. We no longer have to be afraid because I've put together the perfect list of 5 must have items for fall 2016 and how you can style them. If you're stumped on how to style those brand new fall pieces keep reading!
Must Have Piece #1 - The Olive Military Jacket or Vest
Whether you decide on an olive-colored cargo jacket, vest or both it will be one of the most worn items in your fall closet. Find one with a relaxed fit that also has a drawstring at the waist for a more fitted look when needed. I'm loving this cargo jacket from H&M, but this military parka from Express is a great option, too. This piece is great for layering and looks so cute with almost any outfit!

Must Have Piece #2 - The Choker
The choker trend is everywhere right now, but you're working about how you'll deal with all the random necklaces lying around your jewelry box once the trend dies down. Find a necklace that can pull double duty as a choker now or a more classic piece later! My necklace of choice is the Kendra Scott Phara necklace in gunmetal - it's a long, lariat style necklace with tassels on the end. You can wrap it around your neck one or two times for a choker style or tie the ends in a knot for a more classic look! Did I mention this necklace also comes in THREE other colors?!

Must Have Piece #3 - Cross Front Tees
For a more updated take on your basic tees try a cross front tee! The lace-up trend was (and still is!) huge this past spring and summer so why not take it into fall as well? Buy a couple in your staple colors (black, white, or gray) and you'll be set! Topshop offers a cross front swing tee that looks great with jeans and sneakers or a skirt and lace-up flats. I also love the criss cross front tees from SheIn for a less expensive alternative!

Must Have Piece #4 - Lace-up Flats
The lace-up trend is not ending anytime soon guys! If you haven't already purchased a pair of lace-up flats then what are you waiting for? They're great options when you don't feel like wearing boots or sneakers and they can easily be dressed up for work. A classic black pair of perfect for any occasion, but if you're looking to add another pair of lace-up flats to your closet go for colors like Bordeaux, cognac, or even leopard print!
Lace-up Flats: Halogen / Sleeveless Turtleneck: Free People / White Destroyed Skinny Jeans: Refuge / Tote Bag: Tory Burch Necklace: Kendra Scott / Plaid Shirt Dress: Madewell |
Must Have Piece #5 - Moto Leggings
Last year this updated take on the most essential fall item was everywhere! They do come in basic black, but opt for a more daring color like maroon or olive to wear with tunics and booties. I promise you'll never go back to regular leggings again! These cotton moto leggings from BP are perfect for those casual fall days when you don't know what to wear, but know you want to be comfortable.
I can't wait to add all of these items into my fall wardrobe rotation. In my opinion, this is definitely the best time of the year fashion-wise! The layers, colors, fabrics, and textures leave so much room to expand sartorial horizons and try new trends. I hope I've inspired you to try a few new trends this fall!
