McKenna at 2 Months

Thursday, September 21, 2017

2 months down, thousands more to go! While the first month of McKenna's life flew by, things definitely slowed down for month two. It may sound cliche, but this girl has grown so much since her one month update! I really can't complain about anything because she's such an easygoing baby. She doesn't really cry and when she does she's easily soothed. She's not overly clingy, but I am definitely a stage 5 clinger so I always want to hold her. But I feel that's normal for most first-time moms so I'm not going to be ashamed! Enough about all that, keep reading for McKenna's second month update!

Health updates: At her two month appointment, this girl rocked the scales at 10 pounds and 4 ounces! Talk about a growth spurt!! She was so small when she was born so I was so shocked that she basically doubled her weight since birth in only two months. She is currently 21 inches in length - an increase of 2 inches. I wasn't expecting her to blow this stat out of the water since her parents are on the shorter side.

Developmental updates: McKenna has crossed quite a few developmental milestones off her growing list this month. She smiles (with intent, not just from gas), coos and yells, follows movement, makes and holds eye contact, and holds her head up for a few seconds during tummy time. I'm so proud of all the progress she's made so far! Her big, toothless grin definitely makes all the late nights and breastfeeding woes worth it. She's starting to sleep for longer periods during the night. 5 hours has been the max, but I'm still grateful it's not every two hours! Most nights she'll go down around 9 or 10 and wake one or two times during the night. This past week she's been trying to start her day at 4AM. I let her lay in bed with me until she tires herself out and falls asleep until 8AM. A much better wake up time for Mommy!

Postpartum updates: Not much to report here. I went in for my 6 week postpartum check up and was cleared to start resuming normal activities. I also got my Nexplanon inserted, which was a pretty painless procedure compared to childbirth! I also had to take a 2 hour glucose test to check for diabetes since I had gestational diabetes. I haven't received my results or a call from my doctor so I'm claiming that as a good thing! Breastfeeding is still going really well. I maintain my supply by eating a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast EVERYDAY and drinking tons of water. I had a couple days where I felt like my supply was dwindling, so I went to my local GNC and picked up a box of organic Mother's Milk Tea. This stuff works! Making too much milk can be a bad thing so I only drink this when I feel like McKenna is having a growth spurt and nursing every hour.

How did your second month of motherhood go? What worked for you and what didn't?Let me know in the comments below! I love hearing advice from other moms!
