6 Trends to Try for Spring 2016

Friday, February 19, 2016

It's February and that means spring is (hopefully) right around the corner! With the change in seasons comes a change in wardrobe: time to put away the heavy duty sweaters and pull out that off the shoulder top you just bought! Ditch the plaid for florals! Throw out navy and flannel for white and lacy! I've got 6 trends featuring these items and more that are sure to put you in the mood for spring fashion. Some are no-brainers and others might take you a bit out of your comfort zone.

Lace x Utility

I think this is my favorite trend for spring: pairing lacy, white separates with military-inspired vest and bomber jackets. Bombers were part of my essentials for winter and now you can bring them into spring by layering them over lacy body con dresses or dress down a cream romper with an army green duster or utility vest. Throw on a pair of lace-up cognac flats (more about this trend later!) and you're ready for any spring outing.

"Florals for spring? Groundbreaking."

Bonus points if you know what movie the title is from! Florals are not a new spring trend by any means. What's changed is the color palette of those florals: this year is all about flirty pinks, confident reds, and sultry purples. Whether you choose a dress, romper or shorts keep it flowy for a more bohemian look. Bonus: try an off shoulder dress or top for a double dose of spring trendiness!

Denim on Denim

Yes, you read that right: the "Canadian tuxedo" is on trend for this spring. As the weather starts to warm up  If you're worried about mixing denim, start small with a medium wash chambray shirt and white or black jeans then move up to a light was chambray shirt and dark jeans. If you're a bit more daring, try a denim crop top and a pair of distressed jeans. For an even easier way to rock this trend throw on a chambray dress!

All White

Looking for an easier way to get dressed this spring? Try an all white ensemble! White jeans and shirts are year-round closet staples so invest in a few great pieces that can be worn throughout the seasons. If you're looking for a flirty twist on a white skirt I love this scallop hem option from Topshop; this miniskirt can easily be dressed up or down and will be a great addition to your wardrobe if you're just looking to pick up one or two new pieces.

Lace-Up

We already saw a sneak peek of lace-up flats and tops in the fall. From tops to dresses to sandals, anything with lace-up detail is fair game for spring! I really like this trend because lace-up details allow YOU to decide how much skin you're going to show with your outfit. Show off that super cute pedicure with a pair of lace-up gladiator sandals that will go with just about everything from skirts to dresses to boyfriend shorts.

Shoulder Show

Whether you're going to the beach or out on the town, if you want to change how you show more skin during the spring off the shoulder (or cold shoulder) tops and dresses are perfect for this. For more conservative looks, tops can be paired with flared jeans  (which have also made a comeback!) or try an off the shoulder maxi dress for a more 70's feel.

What I love so much about these trends for spring is that they can be mixed and matched in so many ways! Rock a white off shoulder dress and lace-up sandals during the day then switch it up to a lace-up floral dress for a night out. The possibilities are endless. I think the trend I'm most excited to try is all white. There's a minimalist feel to the whole trend that I'm loving at the moment. Which of these trends if your favorite? Or which one are you most excited to try this spring? Let me know in the comments below!
