I can't believe McKenna will be 8 months old in a week and a half! She's honestly the most perfect baby and I'm upset that time is going by so fast because I want her to stay little forever! One part of her growing up that was bittersweet was starting solids around 6 months. Starting baby on solids can be an intimidating, but exciting time for new parents. I know it was for my family! We had NO knowledge of how to incorporate solids foods into McKenna's diet, but we did learn a few things that made the whole process a lot easier for our breastfed babe and us!
The two things we did know about starting our breastfed baby on solids was 1. that we wanted her first food to be nutritious and packed full of the nutrients missing from her breastfed diet and 2. that we wanted to give her a single-grain infant cereal as a first food. Single-grain infant cereals are an ideal first solid food to check for food sensitivities and help develop eating skills. To make the whole process of starting cereal easier, we mixed it with breastmilk to give it a familiar flavor.
Gerber infant cereals are also non-GMO and contains no artificial flavors or colors so I feel good about it being one of the first foods my baby ever eats. I picked up the Gerber DHA & Probiotic Oatmeal cereal at my local Target (but you can get it pretty much anywhere!) along with a few other essentials for starting baby on solid foods: spoons, bowls, and TONS of bibs!
