The fourth trimester (birth to four months) can be extremely difficult with mom and baby adjusting to their new lifestyles. This mom might be feeling exhausted or overwhelmed, so a store bought trinket might not be the best gift you can give. Offer to make dinner or finish a couple of household chores like laundry or dishes. Give this new mom time to just recover and rest and enjoy her newborn or any downtime.
There are so many milestones that baby will hit over the upcoming months. Give a new mom a way to remember each one. A scrapbook, instant camera, or anything to help this new mother remember her baby while they're still a baby! Babies are only this young once so give this mom the opportunity to record these memories.
A mom whose baby is close to turning the big 0-1 might love a photo book with all of her baby's first year pictures or a piece of jewelry (think Pandora charms or birthstone necklaces) to commemorate the occasion.
At the end of the day Mother's Day is not about the gifts. We could care less about presents, gift cards, or spa days. We're just happy to celebrate the day with our little ones and other loved ones. We ask for more time with our littles before they grow up and no longer need us. More time to rest and recover and feel like ourselves again. The gift of time is the best gift any new mom could ever receive.
