I am a night owl in every sense of the word. I get this huge burst of energy around 7:30 when McKenna goes to bed and have this burning desire to do all the things. Instead of staying up all night and not actually getting anything done, I created an ideal nightly schedule that would help me become a better mom during the day. Keep reading to find out the 6 things I do every night to make me a better mom during the day!
- Journaling - I started journaling every night before bed a couple weeks ago and I find that it's a great way to wind down at the end of each day. I also like that I can reflect on the day and write down any of my favorite memories, too.
- Blog work - It's almost impossible for me to get any blog work done during the day. I spend an hour writing blog posts (longer if I'm really inspired), scheduling social media posts, and applying to blog campaigns before bed.
- Check emails - I'm really trying to stay off my phone more during the day, so I try to check all my emails at night. My Apple Watch is a big help in making sure that I don't miss anything too important.
- My self-care routine - I really slacked off on taking care of myself after McKenna was born. This year I made a promise to myself to shower and moisturize my hair every night before going to sleep and it has made a world of difference on how I feel about myself.
- Go to sleep before 11PM - This is the one thing I struggle with every night. It's just so hard to watch just one episode of Criminal Minds! But seriously, I am super grumpy in the mornings so I try to get as much sleep as possible.
- Do 1 thing I really enjoy - Not that I don't enjoy working on my blog or journaling, but I think it's important to do one thing at night that I can't do during the day like read or watch Netflix.
I totally relate to those moms who can't wait for their kiddo's bedtime at the end of the day because chasing after a toddler is EXHAUSTING! I'm so glad McKenna is finally sleeping in her own bed so I can finally get a little peace and quiet at the end of the night. There are definitely nights where I don't do anything on this list because life, but it's nice to have the option. What is your ideal mom night routine like? Let me know in the comments below!
